Financial Calculators

Even the best planning can fall short if it doesn't lead to action. A good financial plan can get you started down the path to reaching your goals. Using our calculators is a great first step.

  • What Type of Investor are You?
This worksheet provides you with a general idea of your investment approach - whether you tend to be a more conservative, moderate or aggressive investor – and what types of investments best fit your needs.
  • Budgeting
This calculator helps you determine your income and expenses, so you can establish a realistic budget.
  • Cost of Delay
Using either a one-time or annual investment, this calculator shows you the potential long-term costs of waiting to invest. Please note that these calculations do not include taxes.
  • Net Worth Calculation
This calculator adds up all your assets and all your liabilities, and provides you with a net worth statement. The calculator also includes a feature that allows you to compare your net worth with others of the same age, gender, or income level.
  • Systematic Investing
This calculator explains the benefits of systematic investing, then allows you to determine (1) how much money you'll have at retirement, given a specific monthly investment amount or (2) how much you need to invest each month in order to have a specific amount at retirement. The results compare the difference between investing in taxable and tax-deferred instruments.

Important Information:

  • The financial calculators were developed as educational investment concepts, to provide consumers with information on some basic investment principles such as the power of compounding, inflation, tax-deferred versus taxable investing, and systematic investing. The information and data contained in the calculators were not intended to be nor should be construed as providing investment advice. Please seek advice from your tax advisor.
  • In all calculators, the Hypothetical Rate of Return is limited so that it cannot exceed 14%.
  • The calculators default tax rates to the appropriate 2000 tax-year marginal rates, based upon state of residence, marital status, and income entered. State tax rates do not include local taxes. You should change these rates if they do not accurately reflect your tax situation.
  • If you want a record of information you've entered into a calculator or a record of the results of the calculations, use the "Print" function on your browser to print each page of the calculator. The budget and net worth calculators, in particular, can have extensive data entered. So that you will not need to re-create a budget or net worth calculation in a future session, we recommend that you print all the applicable screens once all information has been entered.
